English Literature refers to the study of texts from around the world, written in the English language. Generally, literature refers to different types of text including novels, non-fiction, poetry, and plays, among other forms.

In English literature there are a variety of texts studied and a wide skill-set is required to excel in the course. Being an essay-based subject, it is recommended to also study related subjects, such as languages and history alongside it. However, as analysis and creative thinking are key components of the course, Maths Sciences and Economics would also be a great combination with English.
Advantageous abilities such as analysis, creative writing and innovation are learned during the A Level English Literature course. Having strong writing and analysis skills is important for any career and will be valuable during university. For instance, you will be able to write eloquent essays and dissertations during your university course, and thus be more likely to outperform your peers who would be less confident in these projects. Furthermore, for future career opportunities these skills are transferrable to most professions. It is common for English students to pursue Law, Politics and even STEM subjects at University.
