How the one-year retake works

One year to master your subjects and lift your grades.

Choose your subjects – retake one to three A-Levels, or take up a brand-new subject alongside them.
Re-learn the whole course – the complete A-Level specification, re-taught from the ground up in small classes.
Constant assessment & feedback – weekly timed assessments and three full mock exams, each with feedback and a parent report.

A retake plan built around you

No two students are the same. Every student starts with a one-to-one academic consultation, so we can target exactly what held your grades back last time.

In your consultation, we:
Review your previous results and scripts to see precisely where marks were lost.
Identify your strengths and weaknesses across each subject and topic.
Build a personalised retake plan with targeted support to close those gaps.

A-Level retake & resit FAQs

Quick answers to the most common questions about retaking and resitting A-Levels in Birmingham.

Where can I retake my A-Levels in Birmingham?

You can retake your A-Levels at Edgbaston College, an independent sixth form on George Road in Edgbaston, central Birmingham (B15 1PL). We run a full-time one-year retake programme with small classes and university-focused support.

Can you retake A-Levels?

Yes, at any age. A-Levels are linear, so you resit the whole subject rather than individual modules, usually the following summer. At Edgbaston you retake one to three subjects full-time in a single year.

Can you resit A-Levels in November?

No. Unlike GCSE English and Maths, A-Levels are only examined in the summer (May to June). There is no November A-Level series, so a one-year retake course is the standard route.

When can you resit your A-Levels?

A-Level exams are sat once a year, in May and June. A one-year retake course runs across the academic year so you are fully prepared for the following summer series; entries usually close around February.

How much does it cost to retake A-Levels?

It depends on how many subjects you take. College fees cover teaching, assessments and exam-entry arrangements. See our fees for current pricing.

What happens if you do worse in a resit?

Your earlier grade still stands. A lower resit result does not cancel a higher grade you have already achieved, and you can use whichever is better in your university applications. With weekly mocks, going backwards is rare.

How many times can you resit an A-Level?

There is no limit. Each time you sit the full set of papers for that subject and can use your best result.

Can I take a new A-Level subject when I retake?

Yes, you can. As well as retaking subjects you have already sat, you can start a brand-new A-Level alongside them in your retake year. One of our 2025 students added a new subject, went from B to A*A, and won a place to study Medicine.

Do universities accept A-Level retakes?

Yes. The large majority of universities and courses accept resit grades on equal terms. A few highly competitive courses, particularly Medicine and Dentistry, apply specific resit policies, so check each one.

How will you predict my grades?

We don't rely on your previous school's predictions. We set yours from your performance here, weekly assessments under exam conditions and three full mock exams, so they're current and fully evidence-based. Because of the outcomes we consistently deliver, we're able to predict ambitiously. This is a fresh start.

What are your outcomes like?

Outstanding. In 2025, 65.1% of grades were A*–A and 87.7% A*–B, with 72.7% of students progressing to Russell Group universities and 18 winning Medicine and Dentistry places. Recent 2025 successes include a student who resat and won a place to read Law at Cambridge, and multiple students who secured Dentistry places at King's College London.
